PR degree completed
Foundation in communication, strategy, and storytelling. The skills that still shape how I explain complex, technical things simply.
I trained in Public Relations, founded a brand communications agency, and spent the last two years teaching myself cloud engineering from the ground up. This is where both worlds meet.
I trained in Public Relations and built a career on the side people usually only see the surface of: brand voice, campaigns, design, client relationships. That is still my craft. I run Melapi Media & Brand Communications, a branding, web design, and digital communications agency based in East London.
Somewhere along the way I got curious about what was actually running underneath the websites and platforms I was designing for other people. So I started teaching myself: HTML and CSS first, then Python, then cloud infrastructure. Mostly alone, mostly at night, without a formal bootcamp or a study cohort to lean on.
That self-directed streak is now over two years old. It has taken me through the FNB App Academy Full Stack Development programme, a growing stack of AWS and Azure certifications, and into the ELIDZ Science & Technology Park ecosystem here in East London, where I have picked up workshops, training, and a wider network of people building similar things.
The long-term goal is AWS Solutions Architect, with cloud development as a live possibility along the way.
A branding, web design, and digital communications agency I founded and run out of East London, with real clients and real deadlines.
Everything below the interface: storage, compute, databases, and the certifications to back it up.
Built and run an agency in East London covering branding, web design, and digital communications, with a live client roster.
Certificate covering GitHub, APIs, and backend development. The first real proof the self-teaching was translating into shippable skill.
Completed as the formal start of a deliberate move from web design into cloud infrastructure.
Competitive application, accepted into the programme at the ELIDZ Science & Technology Park.
Completed a workshop connecting creative strategy with structured problem solving.
Sat the exam via Pearson VUE OnVUE and passed, adding an AI-focused credential to the certification stack.
Shipped a full cloud water monitoring system for the Eastern Cape, live in AWS's af-south-1 region.
Rounded out the certification stack with a multi-cloud credential alongside the AWS track.
A cloud-based water monitoring system built for the Eastern Cape, designed to track and alert on water conditions across East London, deployed end to end on AWS infrastructure in the Cape Town region.
Announced publicly on LinkedIn. Next up: pushing the project to GitHub and building out the next stage of the portfolio.
S3 holds static assets and site content, served through CloudFront for speed and HTTPS. Lambda functions handle data processing and alert logic without a server to manage, while DynamoDB stores the readings and state that keep the monitoring system accurate. When conditions call for it, SNS pushes the alert out. The whole system is deployed entirely in af-south-1, keeping the infrastructure close to the people it actually serves.

Started the agency in East London: branding, web design, digital communications, with melapimedia.com live on Netlify and real clients on the books.
Started with HTML, CSS, and web design fundamentals. No bootcamp, no cohort, just consistency. This is the point everything below builds on.
Certificate covering GitHub, APIs, and backend development. First real proof the self-teaching was translating into shippable skill.
2025AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials completed, marking the start of a deliberate move from web design into cloud infrastructure.
March 2026Selected for and completed the CAD & Additive Manufacturing Training and a Design Thinking & Innovation Workshop through the ELIDZ Science & Technology Park.
June 2026Cloud-based water monitoring system for the Eastern Cape, deployed on DynamoDB, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, and SNS, fully in af-south-1. Announced on LinkedIn.
June 2026Sat and passed the AIF-C01 exam, adding an AI-focused credential to the certification stack.
June 2026Passed AZ-900, rounding out the certification stack with a multi-cloud credential alongside the AWS track.
2026Pushing Aqua Alert to GitHub with a full architecture README, and building out the Cloud Resume Challenge, this very site.
NowThe north star. Everything above is the changelog getting there.
Target"I've spent my career helping other brands tell their story clearly. This is me learning to tell mine, one deployed project, one certification, one honest line of code at a time."
